Rehome

Rexes needing new homes

Sadly, for many reasons, adult Rex cats of all varieties sometimes find themselves in need of a new home. Very few of these come about through cruelty and neglect - most cats are offered for rehoming due to unfortunate changes in their owners' circumstances, such as illness, divorce, a move to accommodation where cats are not allowed, or the death of an elderly owner. Sometimes a 'conflict of personality' or bullying occurs within a multi-cat household, and one or more cats need to be rehomed, or a cat may have a behavioural problem. Occasionally a breeder will seek a loving pet home for a retired breeding cat, where he or she can receive the fuss and undivided individual attention that it is not easy to give in a large multi-cat household.

For some people an adult cat may be more appealing than a young kitten, with its 100% activity level and need for stimulation and play. However most Rexes retain their playful, attention-grabbing personalities well into adulthood and even into old age. Because they are intelligent and sociable cats which need company and a lot of stimulation to keep them happy, they usually do best either as part of a small multi-cat household, or as an only cat with an owner who is at home a lot of the time. A Rex that is left in solitude for much of the time usually becomes lonely and bored, and may in consequence be naughty or destructive! However, a Rex cat who receives the love and attention that he deserves will be a loyal, loving and devoted companion.

If you feel that you would like to offer a home to an adult Rex, please contact one of the Rehome / Welfare Officers listed below, who will take your details and get in touch with you when a suitable cat becomes available. Don't be too disappointed if you cannot get a cat straight away - most Welfare Officers have waiting lists of prospective re-homers.
